BRIEF HISTORY OF CONGRESS

Brief History of Congress

The Indian National Congress was founded in 1885 and has played a central role in India’s freedom struggle. From its inception, it aimed to create a platform for civic and political dialogue among educated Indians.

Under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi, the Congress transformed into a mass movement that mobilized millions across the country. Movements like the Non-Cooperation Movement, Civil Disobedience Movement, and Quit India Movement became defining moments in India’s fight for independence.

Leaders such as Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Subhas Chandra Bose, and others played crucial roles in shaping modern India. Their vision laid the foundation for a democratic, secular, and inclusive nation.

After independence in 1947, the Congress continued to guide India through nation-building, economic development, and democratic strengthening.

Today, the Indian National Congress continues to uphold the values of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity while striving for inclusive growth and unity.
